Shannons Sydney Classic – Held on Sunday 25th August, 2024.
The weather forecast and the actual weather on Saturday looked ominous with showers predicted so do I put up the hood or not. I decided to chance the weather and drove topless.
Meeting at Harvey’s Social Bungarribee Park who would have thought that the Muscle Cars would be there on the same day as Shannons. With only about 6 or 7 cars meeting we easily fitted in double parked in the cul-de-sac for the short time needed.
Off to Sydney Motorsport Park to join the long queue to get in. Seemed to be longer than usual. Finally made it and our set up was at the entrance to the skid pan so every one coming in passed us. With 2 bugeyes at the front on display and the other Mk 2, 3 and 4’s behind. We were next what has been the band stand in previous days but fortunately they were not there this time.
Our parade lap of the track was at a respectable 11.10 am. We had to follow a Rolls Royce but he kept up a reasonable pace.
My grandson again did the driving. He was fortunate enough to be chosen to attend the Advanced Driving Course provide by the Club a couple of years ago and benefited from it greatly. It is a great course to attend.
The usual very great number of Clubs and cars were in attendance so we did a lot of walking around to see them all.
I have been attending since 2004 and look forward to it each year.
