One day a year our Club runs a supersprint for the Combined Sports Car Association (CSCA). David Baigent our Club Captain/Competition Secretary starts the day after last year’s event to book in the date for next year. Getting a confirmed track day is difficult. David also organises the timing, crash/fire crew, ambulances etc. And then he co-ordinates the entries and groups of the cars for the day. Sometimes, he has to deal with 100 competitors who may not be in their preferred group. However, this year we had a full field and reserves. What David cannot arrange is the weather, and it was hot. The key to a successful event is you, the volunteers who come out to help. Without you putting your hand up to stand on a flag point, manage the dummy grid, make lunches, and scrutineer, we wouldn’t be able to run the event. Motorsport may not be your interest in the Sprite Club, but if we run a successful event, the club raises funds that pay for the concourse, trophies, tickets for Shannons Day, Christmas parties, and other runs that the Club subsidises. I’ll write a better report for the next magazine as the Editor has limited space in this edition.

Who went? David Baigent, Greg & Leah Holden, Donna, Harley & Rod Pringle, Dennis Maher, Ross Reichardt, Graham Wells, Ric Forster, Bruce Taylor, Paul Barbara, Steve Dive, David Ramage, Greg Prunster, David Healy, Brian Thompson, James Kelly, A.D Barbara, Greg Smith, Colin Goldsmith, Mike Walsh, Ern Mitchell, Greg Fereday, Matt Fuller, Michael Cody, Rob Panetta, Blake Hotz, Charlotte Phillipa, Brett Stephens and Seth Reinhardt.

Meanwhile we had a number of crew helping our competitors on the day. Warren Hotz, Evan Hotz, Jack, Scott & Kaiya Gibbs. Warren, Evan and Jack spent much of the day helping everyone keep their cars running.
We also had several competitors both new and returning for our event. Tammie Hotz (AHS), Anthony Barbara (AHS), Paul Orton (AHS), Dennis Best (Lenham – also very handy as pit crew), Bruce Miles (dipping his toes in the water after a number of years), Brayden in the Taylor Motorsport Akai Midget and Elise having her very first run at a supersprint also in the Akai Midget. Special thanks to Glen and Brayden for letting Elise have a run. Thanks to Beryle and Tammie for keeping Elise on the straight and narrow as I was running around all day helping out.
